Stockton Outlasts Drew in Five Sets

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (2-3) won the first two sets, dropped the next two and then regrouped to win the fifth set 15-12 for a 3-2 victory over Drew University (4-4). Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) led three Ospreys in double figures with 18 kills.

Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Haley Green (Springville, Utah/Maple Mountain) chipped in with 11 and 10 kills respectively. Louer and De La Torre, both freshmen, established career highs in kills on the night. Louer also finished with a career-high 14 digs.

Aubrey Rentzel (York, Pa./Central York) dished 31 assists and scooped 19 digs, one off her career best. Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) also posted a double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs. Mendick served a team-high three aces as well.

Stockton took the opening set 25-21 behind six kills by Louer. Rentzel tallied seven digs and Green spiked four kills as the Ospreys prevailed 25-22 in the second set. The third frame was tied 17-17 before Drew closed with an 8-3 run to extend the match 25-20.

The Ospreys led 6-1 and 9-4 in the fourth set behind two early kills apiece by Green and De La Torre. Stockton was unable to keep the momentum and faltered 25-18 as the visitors forced a deciding fifth set.

In the final set, three kills by Louer helped spark Stockton to an 8-5 lead, and the Ospreys stayed in front from there. De La Torre later produced Stockton's last three points with kills as the Ospreys closed out the win 15-12.

Stockton will play in the Neumann Knights Invitational this weekend, starting with matches against Moravian (4 p.m.) and Cedar Crest (8 p.m.) tomorrow.
