Industry Leadership for JEDI

Jamie has been actively involved with AIA SD, elevating and supporting a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion within the profession. She believes that, as citizen architects, the local design community has the power to change lives not only through design but also through advocacy. Jamie served as the first Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (JEDI) for the AIA San Diego Board of Directors, bringing her unique perspective as a Filipino American and her commitment to advocacy to this role. In alignment with AIA National, Jamie helped craft a new commitment, vision, and goals for the chapter. The commitment and policy discuss a new focus on racial justice, mentorship, equity by design, supporting diversity and environmental justice issues. She has also led a series of thought leadership and JEDI-focused events and initiatives that have continued to elevate equity in the design community of San Diego.

Mentorship of Students and Emerging Professionals

Jamie has focused her efforts on elevating social justice issues and providing a platform to empower and share ideas from other minority communities. She is passionate about the power mentorship can provide to younger students to propel their futures and has collaborated with various local organizations including New School of Architecture; Junior Achievement Academy; Woodbury School of Architecture; Palomar, Mesa, Miracosta and Southwestern Community Colleges; San Diego Architectural Foundation; San Diego National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA); other AIA chapters such as Orange County. Her work and collaboration with these organizations are all in the hope of sparking interest to explore the profession and diversify the future pipeline of architects in the region.

With her unique professional background as Studio Director at BNIM, designer, and previous owner’s representative at UC San Diego’s department of Capital Program Management, Jamie successfully leads and collaborates with large integrated teams to deliver design excellence. She believes effective leadership stems from thoughtful collaboration based on mutual respect and trust. As an experienced project manager and architect, she is focused on implementing an integrated design approach to ensure design concepts are supported in every space and detail. She specializes in higher education, civic, developer, workplace, and multi-family residential design, and has helped lead many successful projects throughout her time in the profession.
