Biography

Dr Byrns is focused on bringing risk solutions to the global climate crisis. He is pioneering new paradigms to address the increasing financial impacts of volatile weather. Operating at the intersection of banking and insurance, Dr Byrns is providing a price tag to climate resiliency.

Dr Byrns has been working in weather and commodity markets for over 25 years. Most recently, he was the founder and CEO of Demex, a weather risk technology company. Prior to this role, Dr Byrns was the Chief Innovation and Technology Officer at Munich Re’s parametric weather organization. He has also held leadership roles in quantitative systems at a variety of risk-taking organizations, including reinsurance companies, hedge funds and merchant energy groups.

Before entering the trading field, Dr. Byrns worked as an analyst and consultant in Washington DC and served as an adjunct professor at two local universities.

Dr. Byrns received his PhD in Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Additionally, he received his MS in Economics and MS in Engineering, both from Georgia Tech. He received his BSE from Princeton University.
