Excellence in Library Research Award Guidelines

BSC's student-edited Southern Academic Review (SAR) will accept submissions in early 2024 for publication in the next issue.  Submit your paper and it could be in the running to win the BSC Excellence in Library Research Award -- a $500 honorarium and publication in the SAR.

This award goes to the finest paper, written by a First- or Second-year student in any BSC class, that shows, breadth, depth, and understanding of research.

The Award will be given out on Honor's Day during the assembly in Munger Auditorium in May. The award winner's name will be inscribed on the plaque in the BSC Library.

Criteria for judging the BSC Award for Excellence in Library Research include:

  • A bibliography showing substantive use of library resources and containing at least three secondary sources, not including the primary work discussed or a textbook.  (Examples of primary works include autobiographies, literary works, letters, census data, legal documents, diaries, etc.)
  • A correct and consistent bibliographic format
  • Appropriate integration of source materials in the paper
  • A substantive or significant question discussed in the paper
  • A subject covered adequately or convincingly
  • A creative or sophisticated use of library resources

Please contact a BSC Librarian (libref@bsc.edu) if you have any questions about the Excellence in Library Research Award.
