COLCHESTER, Vt. - Five Saint Michael's College student-athletes were among 72 selections across seven sports for a Northeast-10 Conference Academic All-Conference honor for the winter athletic season.
Men's swimming & diving senior
Trevor Johnson (Salem, Mass./Salem) headlined the selections with his second career honor. The remaining four picks also claimed their initial accolade, as men's ice hockey junior
David Ciancio (Scituate, R.I./Seahawks Hockey Club), women's swimming & diving junior
Margaret Wilk (Hardyston, N.J./Pope John XXIII Regional) and sophomore
Ashley Silveira (Seekonk, Mass./Seekonk), and men's swimming & diving sophomore
Connor Quirbach (Lowell, Mass./Chelmsford) were lauded.
Johnson became the third member of his program to land multiple career NE10 Academic All-Conference nods, joining
Nathan Paluso '15 and
Seamus Butler '19. He earned one relay victory this winter while claiming the NE10 Elite 24 Award as the student-athlete with the top cumulative grade-point average at the site of the league championship, carrying a 3.98 as a health science major. Quirbach won 24 events, played a role in four school records, and claimed four top-five performances at the NE10 Championship one year after posting a pair of all-conference finishes. He owns a 3.95 GPA as a double major in business administration and accounting.
Wilk won 18 events in seven first-semester meets before studying abroad in the second semester. As a double major in business administration and accounting, she holds a 3.76 GPA. Silveira won four events from the diving boards and took fifth place at the NE10 Championship in the one-meter event. She has a 3.98 GPA as a double major in sociology & anthropology and international relations.
Ciancio was key in various facets for the Purple Knights this winter, totaling eight goals and 11 assists in 29 games, tying for third in the NE10 in power-play goals (6), and blocking 68 shots as a veteran defenseman. The captain was named NE10 Defensive Player of the Year and landed on the NE10 All-Conference first team. The 2022-23 NE10 Elite 24 Award winner, Ciancio has a 3.85 GPA as a business administration and accounting double major.
The NE10 Academic All-Conference teams are chosen by a vote of committee of athletic administrators and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FAR). To be eligible for selection to the academic all-conference teams, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the following minimum requirements: 1) participated in at least half of the team's competitions and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative GPA; and 3) completed at least one academic year at their current institution.
