Installing the Zoom desktop app on macOS

This article covers specific information for installing the Zoom Workplace desktop app on macOS. To install Zoom or Zoom Rooms on your Mac computer, you may need to change your Security and Privacy settings to allow for apps downloaded from identified developers.

How to enable installation permissions

  1. In the top-left corner of your macOS device, click the Apple icon and choose System Settings or System Preferences (depending on your macOS version).
  2. Click Privacy & Security.
  3. Under the Security section, next to Allow applications from, choose App Store & Known Developers.
    Note: You may need to enter your computer administrator's username and password.

How to install the Zoom Workplace application on macOS

  1. Access the Download Center.
  2. Under Zoom Workplace for Mac, click Download for Apple Silicon or Download for Intel, depending on your device.
    The Zoom installer (zoomusInstallerFull.pkg for macOS) will automatically start downloading the Zoom desktop app. If downloading doesn’t start, double-click the Zoom installer to begin the desktop app install. It is typically saved to your Downloads folder.
    Note: If prompted "'Installer' would like to access files in your Downloads folder, click Ok.
  3. Once the installer opens, click Continue.
  4. Choose the destination for installation, then click Continue:
  5. (Optional) If you want to change the destination for installation, click Change Install Location.
  6. Click Install.
  7. (Optional) If you chose Install for all users of this computer, enter the administrator credentials for the device.
  8. Click Install Software.
  9. Once the installation is complete, click Close.

Zoom application permissions

Due to increased security and permissions with Mac OS 10.14 Mojave and 10.15 Catalina, you will be prompted to authorize the Zoom desktop app to use the microphone, camera, and on Mac OS 10.15 Catalina, screen recording. The permissions are set within System Settings/System Preferences of the device.
