Each On the Wall Artist Talk features an artist whose work is currently on view on campus discussing their creative process and how their work is influenced by other fields of study.
This On the Wall Artist Talk features artist and writer Rosie Lee. Rosie Lee is a multi-talented artist, writer, scholar, and hip-hop aficionado. At the age of sixteen, Lee began his career as a poet performing spoken-word. As an educator and artist, Lee attempts to bridge his love for art and culture through storytelling. His visual artwork revolves around narratives that reflect nostalgia and black culture using symbolism, iconography, and color. By highlighting iconography and reclaiming past stereotypes and tropes his work's underlying messages challenge monolithic notions of "blackness". Lee will discuss his paintings on view in the DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health and read from his recently published book of poems titled Meta-Black: Theory & Practice.
