The City has a sandbag station open to Gresham residents and homeowners during the rainy season, typically from November to March.

Report flooding

To report broken City mains, a rain hazard or flooding in the public right-of-way: 

  • Monday through Friday 7:30 am-4:30 pm: 503-618-2626 
  • After hours or weekends: 503-661-3906

Garbage and Recycling

Service delays

During severe weather, leave your roll carts at the curb. If your hauler is unable to pick up on a normal collection day, they will attempt to pick up on the next service day.

Check your hauler's website for service updates. 

 Collection is prioritized as follows

  1. Garbage
  2. Recycling
  3. Yard debris
If pick-up is missed
  • Missed garbage and recycling will be collected the following week at no additional cost. Contact your hauler for collection schedule changes.
  • Place bagged extra garbage at the curb. Bags should be limited to your normal weekly volume of garbage.
  • Place extra recycling next to your recycling cart. Extra recycling should be placed in a cardboard box or paper bag – no plastic bags.

Trees

If you see a damaged or fallen tree

  • Call PGE if a limb or fallen tree is on a power line: 1-800-542-8818.
  • Call 911 if the tree is blocking a road. City crews will clear the roadway.
  • Do not drive under downed trees or remove barricades if a road is closed. 
  • Property owners are responsible for street trees behind the curb. Please clear the sidewalk next to your property and remove all debris.

City Road Operations

Use the City’s interactive plow map to see if your street is a primary, secondary or neighborhood street.

Gresham crews anti-ice, de-ice, plow or sand streets – or a combination of techniques – depending on conditions. The City’s winter response route consists of three categories:

  • Priority 1: hospital and emergency routes, arterial streets, and bridges
  • Priority 2: through and collector streets and steep grades
  • Priority 3: residential streets, cul-de-sacs, and dead ends

If inclement weather persists, crews may focus on the Priority 1 and Priority 2 streets until weather improves. Depending on the severity of the weather event, the City may not be able to anti-ice, sand or plow residential streets, cul-de-sacs and dead ends.

Deicing

Deicing tips

Protect yourself, your pets and our water.

  • Have a bucket of sand and gravel, plus a shovel, on hand.
  • Use traction cleats on your shoes or boots.
  • Shovel snow into your yard, not the street.
  • Apply sand and gravel for traction.
  • Do not use salt – it corrodes concrete and is toxic to soil, plants and streams.
  • Use deicing products with magnesium, potassium or calcium sparingly; mix with sand for best results.
  • Cover your car’s windshield with a tarp, or apply a vinegar-water solution in a 3:1 ratio.
  • Sweep up all deicing products after the storm and dispose in the trash.
  • Use a pan of water to rinse shoes and paws.
