    Bill Summary

ON APRIL 4, 2019, THE SENATE ADOPTED AMENDMENT #1 AND PASSED SENATE BILL 1195, AS AMENDED.

AMENDMENT #1 rewrites this bill to require that the family life curriculum used in public schools include instruction on the detection, intervention, prevention, and treatment of human trafficking in which the victim is a child. Such instruction must be accomplished by viewing a video recording approved by the LEA.

Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, this amendment requires each local board of education to require that each teacher employed by the board receive a one-time in-service training on the detection, intervention, prevention, and treatment of human trafficking in which the victim is a child, which must be accomplished through the viewing of a video recording approved by the LEA. The plan recommended by the director of schools and adopted by the local board of education for in-service training under present law must specify the amount of in-service credit that a teacher will receive for viewing the video. This amendment requires local boards of education to maintain a record of each teacher who completes the in-service training in human trafficking.
