Postgraduate Training Fellowship Focuses on Leadership and Management
ASHP has selected Marissa Brooks, Gabrielle Pierce, and Hannah Post as its 2021–2022 Executive Fellows in Association Leadership and Management. The yearlong fellowship provides each Executive Fellow with hands-on training under the guidance of ASHP executives in all facets of not-for-profit association leadership and management.
Brooks is a fourth-year pharmacy student completing a dual Pharm.D. and M.B.A. degree program at Nova Southeastern University (NSU) College of Pharmacy and Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship in Davie, Florida. She previously obtained her B.S. in Allied Health at Texas A&M University. She worked as a pharmacy intern at Baptist Hospital of Miami and pharmacy technician at the University’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. She has held a number of leadership roles, including as the student body president and executive chair of the Health Professions Division Board at NSU.
Pierce is a PGY1 pharmacy resident at the University of Illinois at Chicago Specialty Pharmacy Services. She earned her Pharm.D. and M.B.A. from the University of South Carolina in 2020. She previously served on the Legislative, Student, and Resident Affairs Committees for the South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacy and as a student member of ASHP’s Commission on Affiliate Relations. She is currently involved in various policy and advocacy efforts with the New Practitioner Network of the Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists, and the United Nations Foundation.
Post is a PGY1 pharmacy resident at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. She earned her Pharm.D. from the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Pharmacy in 2020. She has served in volunteer leadership capacities for her local American Pharmacist Association Academy of Student Pharmacists chapter. She has been highly engaged in efforts with a number of professional associations and national organizations, including ASHP, the Missouri Pharmacy Association, the Mid-Missouri Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Kansas Council of Health-System Pharmacy.

The ASHP Executive Fellowship in Association Leadership and Management was created in 1968 (known as the ASHP Executive Residency until 2017) for those interested in a career in association management. Graduates of ASHP’s training program have gone on to serve in leadership roles in associations, government, for-profit corporations, academia, philanthropy, and various other sectors.
Housed at the Joseph A. Oddis Global Headquarters of ASHP in Bethesda, Maryland, the program trains pharmacists in the many facets of association management, including executive leadership, strategic planning, member engagement, and many other essential business management functions.
Brooks, Pierce, and Post will begin their fellowships in July and will be engaged in an array of projects and activities throughout the year that will serve as the foundation of their training.
