DZ BANK Fellowship

For more than 40 years, the American Council on Germany has offered fellowships to promising practitioners to conduct research on a host of substantive topics. The Council will build on this history with the DZ BANK Fellowship on Transatlantic Business and Finance. Under the auspices of this fellowship, finance professionals, journalists, and subject experts will have the opportunity to conduct research on key issues influencing the transatlantic economy – including business, finance, trade, banking, fintech, and innovation and entrepreneurship.

The fellowship allows American and German academics and researchers; practitioners from banking, business, and government; as well as journalists to conduct research and produce analytical reports on the current state of transatlantic business and finance while engaging with their counterparts overseas.

The fellowship covers transatlantic airfare (economy class), domestic travel (economy class), and a monthly stipend of up to $7,500, for a minimum of one month and a maximum of three. Fellows have the opportunity to be in residence at the ACG’s office in New York City and/or travel within the United States or Germany, as long as their research includes a transatlantic component.

Fellows will be required to submit reports: one 500-word essay per month of the fellowship (which would appear in the ACG’s monthly newsletter) and one six- to eight-page analytical report at the end of the fellowship, which would be distributed to the Council’s membership and more broadly as the Council sees fit. Fellows will also be asked to share their research findings with a wider audience through presentations and discussions in New York City, at ACG Warburg Chapters across the United States, and/or their local communities, as well as on social media.

Applicants should present a project proposal of three to five pages detailing their plans for the fellowship, including the background, scope of research, and why it is relevant and how it addresses tomorrow’s topics today, as well as the general sources and institutions with whom they would like to consult. Applicants should specify the desired length of their fellowship and whether they want to be in residence in New York and/or travel. Once a fellowship is awarded, fellows will work with the ACG’s Fellowship Program Director to develop a travel and research itinerary based on the outlined objectives.

Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee composed of a senior representative from DZ BANK’s New York Branch, representatives from the ACG’s Board and/or the ACG’s Investment Committee with a background in international finance, and ACG staff.
