Songwriter Session: Marshall Chapman
While a Vanderbilt sorority member, Marshall Chapman became infatuated with Outlaw-era artists Cowboy Jack Clement, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. The Spartanburg, South Carolina, native went on to win the respect and admiration of those remarkable musicians, and to forge a career that includes fourteen albums, including this year’s Songs I Can’t Live Without. She wrote Top Five country hit “Betty’s Bein’ Bad,” recorded by Sawyer Brown, and has penned songs cut by Jimmy Buffett, Joe Cocker, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Milsap, Irma Thomas, Trisha Yearwood, and many more.
