See Olivia Lane’s Jubilant ‘Make My Own Sunshine’ Video

Singing in the rain and behind the wheel highlight country newcomer's feel-good clip

Country music newcomer Olivia Lane places “Make My Own Sunshine” high on the set list at her live shows, to not only set the stage for a lively night but also to introduce herself to the audience through its joyful lyrics.

“This is what I’m all about; this is how I look at life,” she tells Rolling Stone Country of the uplifting new tune, which she co-wrote with Ilya Toshinskiy and Jim Beavers. “And this is how the show is going to feel. Hopefully by the end of it, I’ve gotten you to smile.”

Smiling is something she does throughout the track’s colorful video, making its world premiere today. In the James King-directed clip, Lane alternates between singing on the sidewalk, in the car and in the rain, while interacting with all sorts of people on the streets – including a pint-sized “couple.”

“James and I were talking about how to incorporate the storyline about the fight with my boyfriend,” Lane explains. “But I didn’t want to get too literal with it, so James said, ‘How about we have two little kids just fighting over toys?’ It’s a boy-girl relationship, but not so serious.

“I wanted the video to really reflect positivity. . . finding a silver lining,” she continues. “Take a moment to breathe and say, ‘I’m going to find a reason to smile today and see the humor in all the craziness.”‘
