Trump-GOP Tax Bill Will Result in Massive Cuts to Health Care

Call and/or Attend an Action TODAY!

The House GOP’s tax plan, released last week, is a massive $1.5 trillion tax cut targeted to the richest 1% and wealthy corporations that will result in deep cuts to health care including to Medicaid and Medicare. All 14 of California’s GOP members voted for an earlier tax plan even though it will hit our state harder than others. The bill is a double whammy for middle class Californians, including communities of color, who will see their taxes go up through the elimination of state and local tax deductions, the mortgage deduction, and medical expense deduction to name a few, paid for by cuts to our health care. The Republican House budget slashes Medicare by $473 billion and Medicaid by more than $1 trillion. As if that isn’t enough, House Republicans are now considering introducing an amendment that would repeal the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) individual mandate, increasing the number of uninsured by 15 million and raising insurance premiums for older, sicker individuals. As usual, the GOP is trying to push the partisan bill at breakneck speed; they will begin markup this week.

Thanks to California’s ACA marketplace, Covered California, financial help continues to be available. In fact, most California consumers who receive premiums will not see a change in what they pay for their insurance next year, and many may see the amount they pay go down. Find out more!
