College Interns not only gain business experience in their particular field, but also experience the famous Culture that makes our Company home to some of the country’s most sought-after internships year after year. 

Wanna know one of our favorite perks? College Interns and Full-time Employees are eligible for free, unlimited space-available travel to any domestic location where Southwest flies. All travel is subject to seat availability, so flexibility is important.

You'll have fun and enjoy your work while also getting paid! The payment amount depends on the particular internship or position and its requirements. When applicable, Interns receive an internet and housing stipend too!

Our 2025 internship opportunities mirror the Southwest AirlinesTeam’s various workplace flexibility models. Some internships are fully onsite and others are virtual or hybrid models. Please read each job description to understand the Team’s expectations.

Internship departments

Human Resources
Known as the People Department, this Team is responsible for recruiting, hiring, and designing data-driven People strategies.
Technical Operations
Tech Ops focuses on Safety and maintains clean, reliable, on-time aircraft for our Customers at the lowest lifecycle cost.


Technology
Technology is a department full of innovators who provide solutions, automation, and Security to improve experiences for our Customers and Employees.
Marketing
Creates demand for the Southwest Airlines brand through continuous innovation, efforts to improve Customers' travel experience, clear and compelling communication, and promotion of core products.

Flight/Inflight Operations
Flight Operations consist of 10,000+ Pilots and hundreds of Technical and Support Staff to conduct our flight operations with the greatest Safety, highest Customer Satisfaction, and most reliable schedule at the lowest practical cost. Inflight Operations consists of multiple Teams that equip our Flight Attendants with the tools they need to care for our Customers.
Finance
The Finance Department includes over 40 Teams, such as accounting, investor relations, tax, payroll, and corporate strategy. Their hard work and dedication enable Company growth and prosperity
Communications & Outreach
Shares the Southwest story by providing thoughtful guidance, programs, and tools that lead to informed, meaningful, and ethical choices.
Supply Chain Management
Oversees product development, sourcing, production, logistics, and the information systems needed to coordinate these activities to maximize Customer value and achieve a sustainable competitive advantages.

Internship qualifications
  • Progress toward a degree, major, or minor relevant to the internship. 

  • Minimum sophomore status by the time the internship starts. May not have an undergraduate graduation date before the start of the internship unless already enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program at the time of application. Put your latest graduation date possible when you apply. 

    For example, a May 2023 graduation date isn't eligible for a post-graduation internship in the summer of 2023. However, if you're a May 2023 undergrad completion but a May 2024 Master's program completion, then you'd use your May 2024 graduation date for eligibility.


  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student as defined by your university at the time of application.  

  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application.
