Dear Friends and Allies:
As you may have heard by now, yesterday afternoon Governor Newsom's office announced my appointment as Chief of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health. I am honored that Governor Newsom and Secretary Su have placed their confidence in me to lead Cal/OSHA.
I'm also honored to have been part of an amazing team at Worksafe, contributing to important advances in worker safety and health in the state. While I look forward to again being a public advocate for workers, I will certainly miss my colleagues here and hope to live up to their expectations of me as I transition back to public service.
I want to thank the many people who have offered support, advice, expertise, and encouragement during my time at Worksafe. It has been wonderful working with you all. While there is still some unfinished business in my plans for Worksafe, I am leaving this important institution in a good place. I am incredibly proud of the team here and what, in collaboration with our many allies, we've achieved these past three years.
While I will remain at Worksafe for a brief time to help pave the way for a transition to interim and permanent leadership, I don't want my pending appointment to impact Worksafe's ability to advocate. Consequently, for the remainder of my time here, I am stepping away from all policy and Cal/OSHA-related matters and will be focused exclusively on management and transition issues. I'm happy to direct people to the appropriate staff person for different issues on which we may have been working together.
I'm grateful to have been so warmly welcomed into California's worker health and safety advocacy community. This is a tremendous group deeply committed to working people, and I'm proud to know you.
Thank you again,
Doug
