Phoenix to kick off its 27th annual Chinese Week downtown

PHOENIX — Phoenix will kick off its 27th annual Phoenix Chinese Week next week, with the highlight being the Culture and Cuisine Festival.
The three-day festival will be located at Margaret T. Hance Park on Friday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Chinese Week showcases the diversity of Chinese culture through foods, traditional dress, dance and educational activities.

A Chinese culture and history booth will display over 5,000 years of history. People can also learn how to use the abacus to solve math problems and learn about Chinese inventions.
For the kids, the event will have a children’s pavilion, where they can create different cultural projects. Kids can lean to write their names in Chinese characters and learn about folk art and paper folding tricks.
The festival will also have vendors, art displays, martial arts demonstrations, musical performances, folk and traditional dances, including the dragon and lion dances and more.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
Later in the month, there will be a Chinese New Year banquet at the Hong Kong-style Great Wall Cuisine near 35th Avenue and Camelback Road, which will cost $45 per person.
