Tuesday’s Evergreen Action press conference about PJM made one thing clear: Pennsylvania is ready to lead the way in energy reform. Acting Secretary Jessica Shirley joined state leaders to discuss how Governor Shapiro’s administration is working to unlock Pennsylvania’s energy potential—with real solutions that will save consumers money, create thousands of jobs, and accelerate clean energy deployment. 💡⚡ The PJM electric grid has been plagued by delays and outdated rules. 80% of energy projects are stuck in limbo—costing Pennsylvanians time and money. That’s why Governor Shapiro helped secure a bipartisan reform agreement with PJM and nine other states to streamline approvals, modernize the rules, and make the grid more reliable. With these changes, Pennsylvanians could save up to 20% on their electricity bills. That’s over $400 million in savings statewide. And with the launch of the Lightning Plan, PA is cutting permitting timelines, upgrading the DEP’s review systems, hiring more staff, and holding ourselves accountable. “As a mom of active kids and a busy household, I know the importance of saving on energy costs. That’s why this work matters—to deliver tangible savings and a stronger energy future,” said Acting Secretary Shirley. Pennsylvania DEP has begun its 2025 Black Fly Suppression Program, now in its 40th year. The program treats over 1,800 miles of rivers and streams across the state to reduce nuisance black fly populations. 🪰 Aerial and ground crews are applying a naturally occurring bacterium (Bti) that targets black fly larvae and poses no harm to humans, fish, birds, or other wildlife. This work supports outdoor tourism, recreation, and public comfort as spring activity increases across Pennsylvania. Businesses in hospitality, event planning, outdoor recreation, and related industries may see seasonal benefits from this ongoing program. Read all about it here: bit.ly/4cu499m
