Greetings in 2021 for Finding God's Light
View this email in your browser
Take heed, dear Friends, to the promptings of love and truth in your hearts. Trust them as the leadings of God whose Light shows us our darkness and brings us to new life.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to a new year, leaving 2020 behind.  We continue to find ourselves in challenging times around the world, and we continue to find hope in our faith and in our Quaker fellowship.  We are not alone, no matter how hard it is.  We are surrounded by God’s blessings, no matter what lies in front of us.  It was later in life that I realized we can feel opposite emotions simultaneously:  longing and gratitude, sadness and joy, confusion and clarity, emptiness and abundance. As we seek God's guidance, let’s be kind to ourselves and others.

The FWCC General Secretary search is now closed, having received (I am told) many good applications . As we begin the next steps of the search process, we anticipate the next growth phase for FWCC.  Please hold the search committee and the candidates in prayer.

Join us for our continuing Quaker Conversations webinar series, resuming on January 30th. More details below. I hope to see some of you there as you cast a little light in my world.

Upholding Friends following the Attack on the Capitol in the US.

On Wednesday 6th January 2021 there was an attack on the US Capitol. A group of armed rioters caused disruption to staff as they stormed into the Capitol Building in Washington DC. The Capitol Building is where laws are passed and where the inauguration of the next president, Joe Biden, will take place on January 20th.

The forceful entrance of rioters is seen as an act against the democratic process and is distressing for many Friends in the US and around the world.

Violent protests in any part of the world are distressing for Friends as it goes against the very peace we as Quakers seek. At the World Office, we are upholding Friends in the US during this time and to stand in solidarity with Friends in America, please see the letter from Australia Yearly Meeting and statements on Friends Committee on National Legislation and American Friends Service Committee websites.

On this note, as reminded by Bainito Wamalwa Clerk of the Africa Section, please also pray for Friends in Uganda, as they hold an election today. For more information, please see the Financial Time's report.
