To address the need to expand recovery support services, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Office of Recovery has awarded the SAMHSA Program to Advance Recovery Knowledge (SPARK). In partnership with SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, SPARK will work with people in recovery, family members, caregivers, and others with a focus on equity to increase recovery opportunities to underserved and under resourced populations. The program will also collaborate across SAMHSA initiatives to further a whole of government approach to promote Recovery Oriented Systems of Care and address systemic inequities that disproportionately impact access to recovery supports and services for individuals living with mental health and substance use conditions.
SPARK is being administered by C4 Innovations with partners including the Alliance for Rights and Recovery, Face and Voices of Recovery, National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, the Center for Applied Research Solutions along with support from Advocates for Human Potential. SPARK is designed to:
- Provide tailored delivery of technical assistance to advance recovery supports nationwide;
- Develop, collect, and disseminate recovery support materials and evidence-based research accessible to the public;
- Convene regional and national meetings to promote recovery; and
- Develop training materials for health and behavioral health providers to foster recovery-oriented care.
More information on upcoming events and technical assistance opportunities will be forthcoming in 2024. To stay abreast of the latest developments of the SPARK, sign up for SAMHSA Email Updates.
