President Price Statement on Violence at University of Virginia; Duke Flags Lowered on Campus

I am deeply saddened by last night’s violence in Charlottesville, and my thoughts today are with colleagues and friends at the University of Virginia. I have expressed to President Jim Ryan my condolences to the UVA community and offered Duke’s support in the difficult hours, days, and weeks ahead.

Sadly, we have seen in recent days a number of tragic events on campuses across the country, from Idaho to our home state of North Carolina. Duke’s first priority remains the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff and the safety of our campus. I also know that many of us are concerned about friends and family at UVA. I encourage any member of the Duke community who may need assistance to take advantage of our mental health and counseling resources.

The entire Blue Devil family sends strength and support to our colleagues at UVA.
