If you look across the whole landscape of students with a significant cognitive disabilities’ school career, often the most constant aspect in their lives are their families. As students grow and progress through school, they will be taught by a variety of adults. They will meet new classmates and develop different friendships. But throughout, parents and families remain their children’s first teachers who know them in different ways across more environments than educators do. Parents are core members of inclusive instructional teams and key to helping navigate and problem solve instructional options throughout the course of the school career.
