No matter which school you enter or which major you choose, there are plenty of academic resources here at Vanderbilt, and specifically on The Ingram Commons, to help you navigate and succeed in your coursework and academic career.

Academic Advising

Students in all four schools receive individualized academic advising throughout their time at Vanderbilt.

Blair School of Music	Learn more about academic advising at Blair.
College of Arts and Science	The College of Arts and Science Pre-major Academic Advising Resources Center (CASPAR) supports first-year and sophomore students as they choose their courses and majors. Learn more information specific to first-year students, like how your AP and IB credits transfer and what classes are available.
Peabody College	Students in the Peabody College of Education and Human Development will be advised by a full-time faculty member associated with their major.
School of Engineering	Students in the School of Engineering will have a full-time faculty member as an adviser throughout their undergraduate careers.

Tutoring

In addition, Tutoring Services offers individual STEM tutoring and group-based learning support at no cost to students. Support is provided by peer tutors and is available for introductory courses in Biological Sciences, Chemistry (General and Organic), Economics, Mathematics, Neuroscience, and Physics. Support for select intermediate and advanced courses also available.

Schedule an appointment with a peer STEM tutor to work through your questions, check your understanding, clarify concepts, deepen retention, build your confidence, and find a community of support ready to help you achieve your academic goals.

The School of Engineering also offers help desks in Featheringill Hall and The Commons Center for all first-year and sophomore students in engineering, science, and mathematics courses. To learn more, click the link below to be taken to the Engineering Academic Support webpage.

For students taking foreign language courses, foreign language tutoring and conversation hours are offered by the Center for Second Language Studies (Furman 001). Inside The Commons Center

The Career Center	The Career Center hosts pop-up drop-ins and workshops throughout the semester in the lower level of the Commons. Be sure to check Handshake for upcoming events! Additionally, each House has an assigned Career Coach who will host drop-in hours in your residence halls throughout the school year.

Vanderbilt Writing Studio	The Commons Center 217 (satellite office) Sundays 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm Mondays 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm Tuesdays 3:00 pm – 10:00 pm Commons Center 217, the Writing Studio’s satellite office, is just one of several campus locations where students can access the Writing Studio. Writing consultation appointments are available starting as early as 9:00 am and as late as 9:00 pm Sundays-Fridays. Undergraduate Research

Undergraduate research comes in many flavors at Vanderbilt. It is integrated into many of our academic courses and is featured as the capstone experience in a number of majors at the University. In addition to research opportunities offered throughout the academic year, Vanderbilt offers a wide range of research-based summer opportunities, including the Vanderbilt University Summer Research Program (VUSRP) and an array of programs housed in colleges and schools and their departments. These programs offer summer support on a competitive basis to a number of undergraduate students seeking to collaborate with Vanderbilt’s esteemed research faculty.
