Blood Drive Information

Give Blood and Support Life-Saving Care at VUMC

When you give blood, an hour or so of your time can save 3 lives. And when you give blood at a Blood Assurance drive, you directly support patients needing life-saving care right here at VUMC.

Blood Assurance is a Tennessee-based non-profit blood donation organization that distributes its collected units locally and regionally.

When VUMC is responsible for a specific number of donations, Blood Assurance directs a guaranteed portion for VUMC patients. This helps keep our blood supply stable and predictable.

*We are currently in need of O negative blood donations*

Donations at Blood Assurance locations in Franklin, Bellevue, Hermitage and Tullahoma can also be credited to VUMC's total. Just tell them VUMC sent you! Donations at upcoming drives at Vanderbilt Bedford and Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton hospitals will also count toward VUMC's total.

Blood and blood products from Blood Assurance and the American Red Cross help VUMC provide life-saving surgeries and procedures for preemie babies, people with cancer, transplant recipients, trauma patients and others.

Note that on the day of the drive, you can't make an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome at any time.

We've added drives in Monroe Carell Jr. Hospital and Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks. See dates and links below.

You'll also find information about ongoing Red Cross drives as well as drives at our regional hospitals in Lebanon, Shelbyville and Tullahoma.

  • Blood donations and blood drives offered by businesses and organizations are down, making the supply of blood and blood products unpredictable. This hurts our work to save lives through specialized surgeries and other procedures.

Giving blood is an extension of our commitment to save lives and serve others. If you are able to donate, it's one more way to put our CREDO and Patient and Family Promise into tangible action.

You'll find regular opportunities to give blood at VUMC locations through Blood Assurance and the Red Cross.

    Blood Assurance Drives

Blood collected by Blood Assurance, a Chattanooga-based agency, are distributed locally. If all appointments at Blood Assurance drives on VUMC's 21st Avenue campus or at Vanderbilt Health One Hundred Oaks are filled, a guaranteed allocation of blood products will be directed for patients getting life-saving care at Vanderbilt.

Appointments are available. Walk-ins are welcome. You can make an appointment here: https://www.bloodassurance.org/vumc

Anyone coming to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to give blood at this drive should use the free valet service to park. The closest valet station to the blood drive location is at the entrance of The Vanderbilt Clinic, 1301 Medical Center Drive. (Map: PDF)
