Granted, it’s still officially winter, but Craig Campbell says that he was getting used to the spring-like temperatures outside in Middle Tennessee – that is, until Monday morning – a trend that was interrupted by a slight dusting of snow across the Nashville area. “I was heading out to the West Coast this past Monday, and left my house about 3am. It had just started to snow a little bit, but I got out of town before there was any accumulation. It was so nice over the weekend, but that goes to show that you never know about Tennessee weather.”
Campbell is hitting the road in support of his new single, “See You Try.” The single – from an upcoming album project – will be released Friday (March 16), but Billboard is excited to bring you an exclusive first listen today. Of the song, Campbell – best known for songs like “Fish” and “Keep Them Kisses Comin” – says he was looking for just the right song.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had a single out. That was on purpose,” he confesses to Billboard. “When we had ‘Outskirts of Heaven’ out, that was a very special song for us and to a lot of people. I don’t think that any old song needed to be the one that we followed ‘Outskirts Of Heaven’ with,” he says, adding that with “See You Try,” he feels he has found it. “I’m ready to get back on the radio. I think this song is going to be a game-changer for me. I think that it’s everything that a hit song is. I can’t wait for everybody to hear it.”
He says that the song definitely takes a very romantic slant. “Me and my wife have been married for thirteen years, and I still get excited….fired up…whenever we’re out and together. It’s just a fun way about how my wife tries to be whenever she wants to let me know she’s in the mood for romance,” he says slyly.
Unlike some of his previous singles, Campbell hasn’t been testing the new release on the road yet. “We decided that we were going to wait until it was available. We didn’t want people to hear it, and then have to wait to find out.” Campbell isn’t going to wait too long before debuting the song for his fans, however. He will perform the song on a favorite stage of his – the Grand Ole Opry – this Saturday.
