Rico Viani (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) was chosen
NJAC Honorable Mention for the Spring 2021 season. The senior earned his first career all-conference honor for his work on the mound this year.
Viani has tossed 33.2 innings and picked up a pair of wins, tying him for the team lead. He has a sparkling 2.41 ERA that tops the pitching staff and ranks fifth in the NJAC. Viani has held opponents to a .254 batting average that is the best on the team and ninth in the conference. He also is third on the team with 18 strikeouts.
The senior has been at his best in conference play with a 2.28 ERA in 27.2 innings of work. He has struck out 15 batters and has held hitters to a .250 average in NJAC games. His best outing this season was on April 24 against Rutgers-Newark when he tossed six scoreless innings and struck out five for the win in a 9-0 shutout.
For his career, Viani has thrown 94 innings and his 2.59 career ERA currently ranks first in the history of the Stockton program. He also has a career .317 batting average with 33 RBI for the Ospreys since joining the team prior to the 2018 season as a transfer from Wagner College.
Stockton is 10-13 on the season and will face ninth-ranked Rowan University in a best-of-three NJAC Tournament quarterfinal series this weekend on May 7-8.
