First Listen: Otis Taylor’s “Twelve String Mile” from _Fantasizing About Being Black_

Otis Taylor’s next album will be a bold and thoughtful exploration of the African American experience. Taylor explains that his 15th record, which is titled Fantasizing About Being Black reflects on “the different levels of racism in the African American experience that are unfortunately still with us today. The history of African Americans is the history of America.” This is the follow-up to 2015’s critically hailed psychedelic offering Hey Joe Opus/Red Meat.

Today we premiere “Twelve String Mile” from Fantasizing About Being Black. In describing the song, Taylor offers, “In the 1930’s deep south, a black man would not dare look a white man straight in the eye…”
