SUNY New Paltz Women's Basketball Announce Incoming Recruiting Class for 2020-21 Season

6/15/2020 4:45:00 PM

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team announced its incoming class for the 2020-2021 season Monday. The Hawks graduated a prestigious group of seniors that won more games than any class in program history. They also generated 1,282 of 1,973 points scored, were four of the top-five scorers and totaled nearly 60 percent of total minutes played, while guiding the program to its fifth State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title in 2020.

SUNY New Paltz also had a prolific freshmen class that earned valuable experience and claimed a conference championship in its first season, and the Hawks are excited to bring in another talented group that will help build toward another SUNYAC title, and a deeper run in the NCAA Tournament.

"We are excited about our 2020 recruiting class," said SUNY New Paltz coach Jamie Seward, who enters his 15th year at the helm. "Individually they provide a number of things that we value, yet they also seem to posses toughness, competitiveness, and the desire to be a part of [the] sacrifice for something bigger than themselves."

Read more about all five incoming Hawks, as Seward talks about each of his incoming recruits below:

Brianna Fitzgerald womens basketball recruit graphicBrianna Fitzgerald '24

Bethpage, NY
Island Trees High School
Height: 5'9
Position: Guard

"Bri has a unique combination of length and quickness. She also has an edge that we like, and that along with her length and quickness could make her a really versatile defender, something we really value. In addition, Bri can really score the ball."

Abby Korzewinksi womens basketball recruit graphicAbby Korzekwinski '24

Shoreham, NY
Shoreham Wading River High School
Height: 5'11
Position: Forward

"Abby is long and aggressive, and she really gets after it on the offensive glass. She can score around the basket, but she also has the ability to shoot the ball from the perimeter. Finally, Abby is smart and thus has not only the physical tools to grow but the aptitude to as well."

Madison Mullman womens basketball recruit graphicMadison Mullman '24

Elwood, NY
John H. Glenn High School
Height: 5'10
Position: Guard

"Madison is a good-sized wing who can really shoot the ball. Not only is she an excellent spot-up shooter, but she can also get her feet set quickly and efficiently and can shoot coming off of screens effortlessly with good range. Her size allows her to defend multiple positions, and that kind of shooter can be a difficult match-up on the other end for bigger players, while her size will create problems for smaller defenders."

Julia Sabatino womens basketball recruit graphicJulia Sabatino '24

Bayville, NY
Locust Valley High School
Height: 5'6
Position: Guard

"Julia is a high level athlete and a high level competitor. Being the athlete she is (received scholarship offers for lacrosse), her basketball skills sometimes are overshadowed, but she did score her 1,000th point en route to an undefeated senior season that was cut short due to the pandemic. Julia's ability to attack the opponents' point guards defensively and attack the basket on offense will make her exciting to watch."

Jenny Walton womens basketball recruit graphicJenny Walton '24

Glenwood Landing, NY
North Shore High School
Height: 5'7
Position: Guard

"Jenny is an excellent shooter with great length as well. Even though she is only 5'7" her length allows her to "play bigger" and could make her a valuable defender as well. She has a beautiful looking stroke and can really get it going from outside the arc."
