Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University track & field student-athletes
Edward Dennerlein (Chatham/Chatham) and
Jessica McRae (Keyport/Carteret) earned All-American honors from the
U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2019-20 indoor season. Dennerlein and McRae, both seniors, received All-American recognition for the first time.
All-American status usually goes to the top eight finishers at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships, however this year's meet was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In lieu of the NCAA meet, the USTFCCCA Executive Committee elected to confer All-American credit on all 675 student-athletes who were accepted to compete at the NCAA Championships.
Dennerlein finished the season ranked 12th in the nation in the shot put with a distance of 16.95 meters. In his lone season at Stockton after transferring from Rutgers-Newark, Dennerlein also snagged USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region and NJAC First Team accolades in the shot put. He won the event at four meets, including his fourth career NJAC crown (indoor and outdoor combined).
Dennerlein was chosen NJAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week three times and ECAC Metro Men's Field Athlete of the Month twice. His first All-American honor caps a brilliant career that includes four NJAC First Team kudos and one NJAC Second Team nod between his time at Rutgers-Newark and Stockton.
Dennerlein was slated to compete in the shot put at the NCAA Championships for the second time in his career after participating in the 2018 NCAA outdoor meet as a member of the Rutgers-Newark men's track & field team.
McRae ended the season ranked sixth in the nation in the triple jump with a leap of 11.88 meters that broke her own school record. She collected USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region and NJAC First Team spots in the triple jump. McRae registered three victories in the triple jump, including at the NJAC Championships, and one win in the long jump during the season.
McRae was selected NJAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week three times and ECAC Metro Women's Field Athlete of the Month once. She earned a total of six all-conference nods in her career (indoor and outdoor combined).
In addition to her 2020 NJAC First Team spot, McRae was NJAC Second Team in the triple jump and NJAC Honorable Mention in the triple jump twice each plus NJAC Second Team in the long jump once. She holds the indoor and outdoor school records in the triple jump and she was scheduled to make her first appearance at the NCAA Championships before the meet was canceled.
