Revive, Recruit, Rejoice, Repeat.

The ReNews Project is a collaboration between press organizations and media companies.

Together, we’re restarting dormant student newspapers on HBCU and HSI campuses – by removing every barrier that stands between students and their desire to do good journalism.

The ReNews Project pays

We offer nearly $10,000 in free and discounted goods and services. For example, Flytedesk guarantees enough ad revenue for one print edition and free racks to distribute it, while SNO donates a free year of web hosting and site building. No one gets into journalism for the money, but no one should go into debt for it, either.

We send in the troops

A pro visits campus to meet interested students, train them into a staff, and help them cover whatever the hell they want. We follow that up with virtual advising for the rest of the school year, and we recruit on campus and locally for onsite advisers.

Other perks include

The Society of Professional Journalists offers free memberships to the student staff and waives entry fees to its Mark of Excellence contest and registration fees for its annual convention for the first year. The Associated Collegiate Press donates a one-year membership and a free in-depth critique. The College Media Association offers a free one-year membership to the onsite adviser and free access to its adviser certification training, plus five free registrations to its annual spring convention in Manhattan.

What have we done so far?

And what we’re planning next? Check out the newspapers we’ve revived, the one we’re working on now, and what comes after that.
