That's Right!

You Chose "B" Island Princess – That's Incorrect!

On The Love Boat TV show, the cruise ship's name was Pacific Princess.

From 1977 to 1987, The Love Boat was like a mini vacation for TV viewers seeking romantic story lines and exotic locations. The show featured the Pacific Princess cruise ship, which was a real ship at the time. Sometimes its sister ship, the Island Princess, stood in during filming.

People joked that The Love Boat was like The Tonight Show — pretty much everyone appeared on it at some point. For example, most of the cast of The Mary Tyler Moore Show guest starred on The Love Boat to reunite with their former cast member Gavin MacLeod, who played Captain Stubing.

The cast of The Love Boat would actually go on Pacific Princess cruises to places all over the world. The extras in those shows were real Pacific Princess passengers.

Did you know the series was based on a novel titled The Love Boats by Jeraldine Saunders? She wrote the book from her personal observations while serving as a hostess on a cruise ship.
