The annual benefits open enrollment period for 2024 is November 13 through December 1. Open enrollment is the only time of year when benefits-eligible employees can enroll in and/or change benefit elections for the coming year (other than qualifying events such as marriage, birth or adoption of a child, etc.). Now is the time to review your current benefits in PeopleSoft and plan for calendar year 2024.
As always, UVM remains committed to offering faculty, staff, and their dependents, comprehensive benefits while aiming to keep cost increases to a minimum. While most of our benefit premiums will see no increases for 2024, medical premiums will increase by 15%. UVM is not alone in seeing an increase in medical insurance coverage, in fact, many businesses are experiencing larger increases. In our region and beyond, increased utilization and claims, inflation, and increased hospital and provider operating costs play a key role in the cost of medical insurance. The chart below outlines 2024 costs for UVM benefits-eligible affiliates:
Monthly increase 2023 to 2024 for UVMSU & Non-Union | ||||
Medical with 15 % increase | $40-50K | $70-80K | $100-110K | $150+K |
Employee Only | $21.74 | $32.61 | $43.47 | $54.35 |
Employee & Spouse | $43.47 | $65.21 | $86.95 | $108.69 |
Family | $62.71 | $94.06 | $125.42 | $156.77 |
All Other Benefit Plans 0% increase: This includes dental, vision, life insurance, and long- and short-term disability insurance. A full summary of 2024 open enrollment is included in the Employee Benefits Guide (PDF) is a great resource for finding detailed information for 2024 benefit options and resources.
Enroll online through PeopleSoft. Open enrollment benefit elections can be reviewed and benefit elections changed at PeopleSoft Self-Service. This includes medical, dental, vision, short-term disability, retirement savings plans (403(b)/457(b)/Retiree Health Savings) and flexible spending (both health and dependent care). Changes to life and long-term disability will continue to be communicated via a paper form submitted via the UVM file transfer service to Human Resources at HRinfo@uvm.edu.
Open Enrollment is November 13 – December 1. Again, this is the only time of year that employees can add, drop or change their UVM benefits without experiencing a qualifying event. You do not need to re-enroll if you do not want to change any of your benefits except with Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) which require annual re-enrollment.
