As Christmas approaches in this year marked by war between Christian countries and in the land made holy by the birth of Christ, the promise that has been our theme in SVDP’s 60th anniversary year is so important: “Behold, I make all things new.”

Immediately before speaking these words, the Risen Christ says of his Father: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death or mourning, wailing or pain, [for] the old order has passed away” (Rev. 21:4). My prayer for all of you and for our world this Advent and Christmas season is that the Lord will indeed truly wipe all tears from our eyes. May the Christ whose birth we celebrate, the One who will return in glory and comes to us now in the sacraments, transform us and the world, and make us and the world new.

May God’s blessings descend upon your family this Christmas and throughout 2024.

                                        With gratitude and prayers,
