A Message from Ian Wilhelm
After three days and roughly nine hours of programming, I have two favorite parts of the Chronicle Festival. My first: When Margaret Spellings, a former U.S. secretary of education, jokingly predicted that by 2035 beer pong would be replaced by “gummy pong.” It came on Day 2 in a fun, but also insightful, conversation with The Chronicle’sJack Stripling, who hosts our new podcast, College Matters. My other favorite part? You, the audience.
This year’s event set a record for attendance, and it means so much that you took time out of your busy schedules to watch, answer polls (and even my quizzes), and interact. Reading the Q&A each day, I learned so much. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I do hope you’ll let us know how we can continue to improve the festival. We’ll be sending attendees a survey to help us understand what we did well – and what we can do better. My goal is to make it a big-tent event where professionals from all types of institutions can gather to hear intelligent, thought-provoking, and provocative ideas shaping higher ed. Finally, from me – and of course Chronosaurous Rex, the unofficial mascot of the festival – thank you!
