A parasitic insect that’s typically only a concern in the summer is becoming a winter-time threat in Wisconsin thanks to consistent temperatures above 40 degrees.
The unseasonably warm weather we’ve been having means ticks are on the move.
University of Wisconsin – Whitewater Biology Professor Tom Klubertanz says you should be wearing insect repellant and checking yourself after you’ve been outside, just as you would in the summer.
Klubertanz says early-season warm weather brings concerns about other tick species from the southern Unites States migrating north and getting established in Wisconsin. He says two that come to mind include the Lone Star tick and the Gulf Coast tick.
