The Foundation Hosts Summer Advising for Recent High School Graduates

sfstl-adminNews

The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis is gearing up to beat summer melt by assisting recent high school graduates with finalizing their college enrollment plans.

What: The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis will provide drop-in advising hours for recent high school graduates. Students can walk-in or schedule an appointment to meet with a student advisor to discuss financial aid and/or college affordability. Specifically, students will receive objective and professional advising related to:

  • Filing or correcting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
  • Completing verification paperwork;
  • Reviewing and comparing financial aid award offers;
  • Evaluating a school’s immediate and long-term affordability;
  • Determining options to fill a gap or implement a back-up plan.

Why: “Summer Melt” refers to the phenomenon affecting college bound students whose plans seemingly dissolve or melt-away the summer after high school graduation, preventing them from attending college in the fall. Quite often, recent high school graduates lack access to counselors and other support staff to assist them in navigating key college transition tasks that carry over into the summer following the student’s senior year.

When: The Scholarship Foundation will provide drop-in advising hours every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 8:30am-4:30pm, beginning June 5-July 26 for recent high school graduates who have plans to attend college in the fall. The Scholarship Foundation will be closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday.

Where: Summer advising hours will be held at The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis, 6825 Clayton Avenue, Suite 100, St. Louis, Missouri 63139.
