Stockton Advances to NJAC Championship with 92-78 Win

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (23-4) advanced to the NJAC championship game for the third straight season with a 92-78 win over Montclair State (14-10) on Thursday night.  DJ Campbell (Vineland/Vineland) led quartet of Ospreys in double figures with 28 points, tying his career high.
 
Stockton came out firing in the first half, turning a 13-10 lead at the 16:28 mark, into a 36-12 advantage just over eight minutes later. In the middle of the 23-2 run was Kadian Dawkins (Eastampton/Rancocas Valley), who tallied seven points, with Campbell and Jonathan Azoroh (Ewing/Ewing) adding five and four points respectively.
 
The Ospreys finished out the half leading 54-29 as they shot a blistering 56.8% (21-37) that included 9-21 (42.9%) from behind the arc. The defense held the Red Hawks to 35.3% (12-34) shooting overall and just 4-18 (22.2%) from the three-point line.
 
The Red Hawks gathered themselves at the break and started off on a 11-1 run to begin the second half to close to 55-40 with 17:26 remaining in regulation. The visitors' full-court defense harassed Stockton into numerous turnovers that allowed Montclair State to get back into the contest.
 
But Stockton answered with a three from Campbell, a Dawkins basket, and a pair of foul shots by Kyion Flanders (Wildwood/Wildwood) to stretch the margin back to 62-40 with 16:04 to play in the game. The lead did not get below 17 points until the final minutes as Stockton posted the 92-78 win to move to the championship game on Saturday night.
 
Campbell tied his career high with the 28 markers and topped the team with six rebounds, Dawkins also tied his career best with 20 points, dished six assists and grabbed five boards while shooting 8-10 (80%) from the field on the evening. Azoroh and Jordan Williams (Trenton/Trenton Central) both tallied 13 points and combined for a total of nine rebounds between the two players.
 
Flanders, the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year, only scored five points, but garnered game highs of seven assists and three blocks while pilfering three steals.   
 
Montclair State was led by freshman Mike Jackson with 22 points, leading five Red Hawks in double figures. Steven Breeman and Devin Cooper added 14 points each, with Amari Mills and Irving Callender IV posting 12 and 11 markers respectively. Callender pulled down a game-high seven rebounds, with Cooper chipping in with six assists.
 
Stockton will host No. 2 seed Rowan University in the NJAC championship game in Galloway on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
