Glenside, PA – Stockton University (4-1-1) stretched their unbeaten streak to five straight matches with a 1-0 victory over Arcadia (3-2) on Wednesday night.
John Maxted (Middletown/Middletown North) scored 1:14 into the second half for the lone goal of the contest, propelling Stockton to the win.
Â
The first half was a tight, scoreless affair in which Stockton outshot the Knights by a slim 7-5 margin. The Ospreys put three attempts on net to one for the home team, but neither squad could break through for a score.
Â
Maxted finally broke the deadlock with his game-winning shot from a sharp angle at the right side of the net that eluded the Arcadia goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead. Maxted's first goal of the season came on a pass from freshman
Colby Rumpf (Williamstown/St. Augustine Prep), who earned his first career point with the assist.
Â
From there, the Stockton defense clamped down, allowing just two shots in the second half, to grab the 1-0 victory. The Ospreys held a 6-0 advantage on corner kicks on the evening as well.
Â
Stockton netminder
Dino Gromitsaris (Bordentown/Bordentown) made three saves in posting his second straight shutout and third in the last four games.
Â
Arcadia net minder Jake Varrato kicked out five shots on the evening.
Â
Stockton returns home to start a four-match homestand on Saturday. The Ospreys will face Ursinus College, with a 4 pm start time.
