When it comes to a child’s emotional intelligence, generational trauma can play a significant role in shaping their ability to understand, manage, and express their emotions. Here’s how: 1. Emotional Dysregulation - Parents’ Trauma Response: If a parent has unresolved trauma, they may struggle with emotional regulation, often swinging between extremes (e.g., anger, withdrawal). This can create an unstable emotional environment for the child. - Impact on Child: The child may have difficulty learning how to regulate their emotions because they lack consistent modeling of healthy emotional behavior. They might develop anxiety, depression, or become emotionally reactive. 2. Attachment Issues - Trauma in Parenting: Parents who have experienced trauma might be overprotective or emotionally distant. They may inadvertently pass on a sense of fear or insecurity to their child. - Impact on Child: A child raised in this environment may develop insecure attachment styles, which can hinder their ability to form healthy relationships and understand their own emotions. 3. Burnout is essentially a saturation point of stress within the nervous system itself, that ultimately negatively influences how the brain and the body function. A chronically stressed nervous system state leads to massive dysregulation of all biological systems. But what actually creates the greatest amount of suffering is the fact that you lose the ability to be self-directed. You lose the ability to direct your thoughts and your emotions and your behaviors. So you stop being able to show up to life in a way that’s aligned with your goals, your values and your highest ideals in life. And this loss of the capacity to direct the mind, leads to profound levels of frustration, disappointment, despair, and defeat. And I want to scream it from the rooftops that “it doesn’t have to be this way for you any longer!!” I also want you to know that burnout and the ongoing patterns of stress-based reactivity is NOT a personal failure. It is truly just human neurobiology. Here’s the best news— there’s a solution. There is a scientifically proven way for you to train resiliency back into the nervous system itself so that you have the capacity to leverage the inherent ability of self directed neuroplasticity. This means you get to be the creator you’ve always been. You get to keep showing up big for life. You get to keep becoming more and more of who you really wanna be. You get to have it all. You get to have The healthy relationship with your kids. You get to have the presence and the power of harnessing all of you in the moments that mean the most to you because you have the ability to dismantle all of the thought-emotion-behavior loops that keep you self sabotaging, and self-destructing. This frees you to create the love, the health, the success, the joy that your heart desires as you move forward. THIS is how you get to love life again. Burnout is not the end. Burnout does not mean something is wrong with you. Burnout is simply a sign, a symptom of the REAL problem. That problem is actually within your nervous system. So it isn’t personal, it’s not a personal failing, it’s not a character flaw, it’s not some sort of personality defect. So let’s get it cleared up, you are NOT the problem. Burnout is not even the problem. Burnout is a symptom of the problem, it’s a sign. A sign that it’s time to upgrade, upgrade your nervous system, upgrade your brain, upgrade your ways of thinking, and being and living. And that journey of continuing to grow and evolve and change… Being on THAT journey is where fulfillment, satisfaction, and a deep sense of meaning and purpose live. WholeHearted Wednesday 💜 #23   🌫 Creative Mist 🌫 Have you ever been involved in an endeavor and found yourself in a fuzzy place? Can’t seem to find the way forward, no evident progress markers, no sense of the ending accompanied by the desire to quit and be done? I have been there, especially these past two weeks. I find myself in a fog of ideas, restless sleep, and loss of focus during project creation. Something had to change. I wanted a way out so I could move on. An early morning spring mist outside my home gave me pause. I noticed how the mist moved, shifted, and did not stay in one place. I saw images come into focus and then blur to clear again. Noticing the mist allowed me to see nondistinctive figures and shapes. If I waited a little bit longer, the mist lifted, and the rock cliffs and craggy valleys came into view. I re-considered my projects and this foggy thinking. Perhaps, I could notice the distinct elements and plans on paper and keep going. Trusting that the mist will lift and allow me to see the path forward. Choosing not to quit, I kept my momentum going; the actual form was still fuzzy and finally completion as my inner creative mist shifted and cleared.
