Mabry-Hazen House: Fall Clean-up Day

Category: Free event and Science, nature

As summer bids farewell, it's time to clean up its "mess." This summer was hot but the flora on Mabry's Hill was still prolific so the site needs a healthy trim before the arctic airs of late fall and winter set. And with over 7 acres of green space there is plenty of space to spread out and safely social distant!

Mabry-Hazen will hold a fall cleaning day on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only have 2 hours? No worries, all are welcome to come and go as they please. Water and refreshments will be provided.

With over seven acres of greenspace and thirty-two different tree species, the grounds surrounding Mabry-Hazen House require a significant amount of care and upkeep to maintain its natural beauty. Activities will include leaf and brush removal, mulching, removal of invasive plants and dead trees, garden bed weed removal, and general grounds maintenance. The museum will also plant a native flower garden. Some tools will be provided, but volunteers are encouraged to bring rakes, shears, shovels, tarps, pruners, trowels, and similar yard and garden tools. Water and light refreshments will be provided. Free t-shirts and water bottles for those participating (supplies limited).
