Imagine standing in the heart of ancient Rome, the Colosseum looming before you, while your professor's voice guides you through the bustling streets of history. This isn't a daydream – it's the revolutionary learning experience that Professor Roberto Nicosia's "Roma eterna capitale" course at Tulane University now offers.

From Classroom to Colosseum

This semester, Tulane's Innovative Learning Center (ILC) and Professor Nicosia joined forces to transport students across oceans. Armed with ten Oculus Meta Quest VR headsets, students traded their desks for the sun-baked stones of the Roman Forum and the grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica.

Beyond the Textbook: Immersive Learning in Action

Professor Nicosia's live commentary breathes life into the virtual streets, turning static history into a living, breathing experience. Students don't just learn about Rome – they explore its hidden alleyways, marvel at its architectural wonders, and absorb its rich culture firsthand.

The Future of Education: One Headset at a Time

Dr. Blaine Fisher, who created the ILC's VR program, sees this as just the beginning. "Virtual reality transforms the way students interact with complex subjects. We’re bringing education to life, one headset at a time," Fisher enthuses. "Imagine studying marine biology by 'diving' into coral reefs, or exploring the human body from the inside out in pre-med courses. The possibilities are endless!"
