Faculty: Help ensure student access to course materials by sharing with Library Reserves

The following message was shared with faculty and staff on Friday, May 29.

Dear Faculty Colleagues:

Library Course Reserves will be critically important for instruction this fall. Equitable access to course materials is an often-overlooked contributor to student success, one that will be even more important in the months ahead.

If you can, please take a moment in the next few weeks to share the required readings (or texts, scores, videos, etc.) for your fall courses with us – especially those items you will not provide via Blackboard. Contact the Library via askref@newpaltz.libanswers.com to do so. A librarian or library staff member will reply to your email.

If you have time, you can also help us help our students by:

  • lending us any copies of required/recommended materials you or your department own;
  • checking the Sojourner Truth Library and SUNY Library catalogs for items and including the call numbers on your list

Providing equitable access to required readings, at no cost, is a core value at Sojourner Truth Library. We cannot guarantee that every item on every list will be made available. But the more information we have, as early as possible, the more we can accomplish toward that goal.

Thank you,

W. Mark Colvson, Dean, Sojourner Truth Library
