In 2018 NYC decided to tackle Climate emissions from the PLATE. Results? They speak for themselves! There's so much untapped potential in reducing our climate footprint with existing solutions and technologies. Proud of this city! "These initiatives are delivering exactly as intended: our food emissions are steadily declining. Between 2019 and 2023, the city slashed its purchases of animal products by nearly 15 percent, with ruminant meats (predominantly beef) dropping by over 60 percent. This reduction translated into a 29.2 percent decrease in our food-related emissions overall — or 43.7 percent less per 1000 calories. Within the first year of the plant-based default program, H+H achieved a remarkable 36 percent reduction in their emissions."

Slate's Sweetgreen hit piece is lazy, shallow, and smug. Shared as a representative example. HEADLINE: "Sweetgreen's Menu Change for Your 'Health' Is Very Dumb" Hard pivot early in the article to blaming RFK Jr. and scolding consumers who choose to avoid seed oils. Passing the buck: "Seed oils are commonly used in unhealthy foods because they are cheap...The problem with eating tons of seed oils isn’t the seed oils; it’s that such a diet might be heavy in junk food." Ignoring the elephant in the room: on average, Americans consume 20-30% of daily calories from soybean, corn, and canola oil. No attempt to cover the nuance (Cleveland Clinic and Healthline do this well with their seed oil articles). Actual quote from the Slate article: "It's all just oil!" Falsely citing a subset of experts with a pro-industry positions on seed oils as representing a consensus. The article claims that olive oil's health benefits are overblown because of the shortcomings of observational evidence. This is the exact type of research seed oil advocates rely on heavily. The article complains about polarization while perpetuating tired, borrowed, one-sided, fingers-in-ears, bad faith talking points. This is not the article you write when you have a strong argument.
