Here are perspectives and advice from some of our team members who help JEVS program participants get jobs.

Tip: Explore what truly interests you so that your career doesn’t become just a job.
I promote personal development for professional growth. I encourage my team of instructors to advocate for participants along their career path journey in a supportive environment through the lens of dignity and respect.
Gary Lachow, Job Developer at JEVS Career Strategies
Tip: Work with a career counselor/job development specialist who is aware of the latest techniques in job search that have proven success. They will help your resume and interview stand apart from other qualified candidates.
This means making sure your resume can be reviewed by applicant tracking systems. In an interview, it may mean perfecting your story so it stands out to the employer.

Tip: Sometimes pursuing your goal is a two-step process. For example, if someone wants to become a nurse but needs to be working now, I suggest taking one of our healthcare certifications like phlebotomy. You become certified in a few months, can get a job, and then using the company’s tuition assistance and on-the-job training to pursue the next career step.
