Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (1-1-1) earned its first victory of the season as
Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) scored with just 2:09 remaining to lift the Ospreys to a 3-2 triumph over Drew University (1-1) in their home opener.
Jessica Heitmann (Rockaway/Morris Knolls) and
Susan Porambo (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) also scored for Stockton in a match that was tied both 1-1 and 2-2 before the Ospreys prevailed.
Drew's Ayla Lopez wasted little time getting the Rangers on the board as she stunned Stockton with a goal just 29 seconds into the game. In the 25th minute,
Kendra Cirino (Midland Park/Midland Park) sent a pass ahead to Heitmann, who tied the game 1-1 with a shot from the left side. The assist was Cirino's first career point.
The deadlock remained into the second half when Porambo ran onto a long ball from
Heather Bertollo (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) and chipped a shot over the goalie at 51:01 to give the Ospreys their first lead of the night at 2-1.
Down the stretch, Drew generated five corner kicks in a nine-minute span and finally cashed in on a header by Jessie Brannick that created a 2-2 tie with 7:38 remaining. LeDonne later found an opening and booted a shot from the top of the box that went inside the left post with only 2:09 to play, giving Stockton the 3-2 victory.
Ospreys' goalkeeper
Kylee Sullivan (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) earned the win with five saves. Anthi Panayides finished with two stops for Drew.
Stockton will continue its three-game homestand on Saturday when the Ospreys face North Carolina Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
