Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (3-0) scored three goals in a six-minute span of the first quarter and cruised to a 5-0 victory over Gwynedd Mercy (0-2) for its third straight win. The game was the home opener for the Ospreys.
Gianna Morganti (Berlin/St. Joseph's) and
Madison Maguire (Swedesboro/Kingsway) led Stockton with two goals and an assist apiece.
Tori Wilson (Mays Landing/Cedar Creek) added a goal and an assist as the trio accounted for all of scoring in the game.
Maguire started the early scoring run just 3:30 into the game as she stripped a Griffins' defender, spun and fired a shot into the cage. Wilson soon made it 2-0 by deflecting home a centering pass from Morganti.
Maguire capped the three-goal first quarter with her second marker of the game. Wilson sent a long ball across from the left wing that Maguire collected and shot for a commanding 3-0 advantage in the first 9:11 of play.
In the second quarter, Morganti potted a rebound after a save by Gwynedd Mercy goaltender Morgan Lawless for the first of her two straight tallies. Morganti then added her league-leading eighth goal of the season by knocking in a pass from Maguire in the third quarter to end the scoring in the 5-0 Stockton victory.
Ospreys' goalie
Kylie Mitchell (Shamong/Seneca) made two saves in the second half to record her first career shutout. Mitchell's first save was a sprawling stop on Amber Sims, who had broken in alone on the sophomore goaltender.
Lawless finished with six saves for Gwynedd Mercy.
Stockton will begin a three-game road trip on Saturday with an early tilt at Eastern University that begins at 11 a.m.
