Georgia-born songwriter Matt Rogers is debuting the nostalgic lyric video for his song "Britches" exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play above to watch.

"Britches" is a song full of solid life advice that comes directly from Rogers' grandfather, whom he called "Pep": "Everything that glitters isn't always gold / Always make some time to call your mama / You know she loves you more than anything in the world," Rogers sings in the chorus. "Be sure that you can swim if you burn bridges / Son, don't you ever get too big for your britches."

In Rogers' "Britches" lyric video, the song's words are set to vintage home movies. Not surprisingly, writing "Britches" was intensely personal for Rogers, who says that hearing the mastered version of this song for the first time was one of his proudest moments as an artist.

""Britches" is one of those songs I really wanted to get out. It was an idea I had for a while. I had come up with the chorus melody one day and liked the idea of having that space between each of those lines because they each carried significant weight in my personal life," he says. "We are all very close in my family, and my grandfather was so influential in my life. It's pretty incredible remembering all of his sayings when I was young, and how they impact me now, how they helped make me the man I am."

In 2017, Rogers released his EP Richest Place on Earth, on which "Britches" appears. He's also performed alongside artists including Cole Swindell, LoCash and Michael Ray, performing more than 200 dates each year, including a stop at the CMA Music Festival's Fan Fair X. He plans to stay out on the road in 2018 and continue bringing his music to both current and new fans.
