Brittany Hinkle, M.Ed., a Child Psychology Intern in Infant Mental Health, won a psychology graduate student poster award at the Louisiana Psychological Association annual convention. Hinkle and her co-presenter, Shareefah Al’Uqdah, Ph.D., of Howard University, used a strengths-based approach to examine the predictors of marital satisfaction on African American spouses. The study utilized self-report measures to examine the relationships between demographic variables, marital satisfaction, communication styles, depression, anxiety, and parental and family adjustment. The results revealed that stress, parental adjustment, and constructive communication significantly influenced marital satisfaction.

Hinkle is a postdoctoral researcher in the Clinical Psychology Internship at Tulane University School of Medicine
