‘One Number’ Is No. 1 For Luke Combs, Florida Georgia Line Makes High Debut Look ‘Simple’

Luke Combs collects his third No. 1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated June 9), as “One Number Away” (River House/Columbia Nashville) rises 2-1 in its 24th week, increasing 6 percent to 45.6 million audience impressions in the week ending June 3, according to Nielsen Music.
On the Hot Country Songs chart, which combines airplay, streaming and sales data, “One” holds at its No. 3 high.
“One” is the third total and consecutive Country Airplay No. 1 for the 28-year-old singer-songwriter. Combs’ debut hit “Hurricane” led for two weeks starting on the chart dated May 27, 2017, followed by “When It Rains It Pours,” which also dominated for two frames, beginning Nov. 4.
Says Combs, “When people sing my songs back to me [in concert], I know they are doing the same in their cars, on their boats or at a bonfire as the radio is playing, and that is just the coolest thing to me.”
Combs becomes the first artist to top Country Airplay in his first three appearances since Kelsea Ballerini, who rattled off three career-opening No. 1s in 2015-16: “Love Me Like You Mean It,” “Dibs” and “Peter Pan,” all of which led for a week each.
The last solo male to send his first three Country Airplay entries to No. 1 before Combs? Sam Hunt, in 2014-15, with “Leave the Night On,” “Take Your Time” and “House Party,” also all one-week leaders.
Combs co-wrote “One” with Sammy Mitchell, Steven Andre Battey and Robert Williford. The song is from Combs’ debut full-length, This One’s for You, which launched atop Top Country Albums on June 24, 2017. A deluxe version, This One’s for You Too, arrived June 1 and includes five new tracks.
‘SIMPLE’-Y IRRESISTIBLE Florida Georgia Line launches at No. 24 on Country Airplay with a more organic sound from FGL, “Simple,” released June 1 as the first single from the upcoming fourth LP from the duo of Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard. (The pair released fellow new track “Colorado” the same day.)
With help from hourly plays at participating iHeartMedia stations starting at 6 a.m. locally June 1, “Simple” bounds onto Country Airplay with 9.7 million audience impressions in its first three days. The bow marks FGL’s second-highest, trailing only the No. 1-peaking “Dirt,” which debuted at No. 16 (July 26, 2014). On Hot Country Songs, “Simple” starts at No. 47; its first full week of streaming and sales, ending June 7, will count toward next week’s chart, dated June 16.
Meanwhile, Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant to Be” (Warner Bros./Big Machine Label Group) rules Hot Country Songs for a 27th week, extending the longest reign for a song by a duo or group in the Hot Country Songs chart’s 59-year history. The overall runner-up moves a notch closer to the record held by Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road”: 34 weeks at No. 1 in 2017.
NEW TOP 10s Dierks Bentley banks his 22nd Hot Country Songs top 10, as “Woman, Amen” (Capitol Nashville) scoots 11-8. It bumps 4-3 on Country Airplay (38.6 million, up 8 percent), while gaining by 19 percent to 6,000 downloads sold and 15 percent to 3.2 million U.S. streams.
Plus, David Lee Murphy and Kenny Chesney’s “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” (Blue Chair/Reviver) hops 12-9 on Hot Country Songs on the strength of its 11 percent hike to 37.8 million impressions, as it pushes 5-4 on Country Airplay. It also romps 18-9 on Country Digital Song Sales (10,000 sold, up 27 percent), returning to the top 10 for the first time since the April 21-dated list, while increasing by 5 percent to 2.6 million U.S. streams.
Chesney achieves his 52nd Hot Country Songs top 10, extending his mark for the most of any act since his first week in the region (June 24, 1995, with “Fall in Love”). Tim McGraw ranks second with 50 top 10s in that span (and 55 overall). (George Strait leads all artists with 86 Hot Country Songs total top 10s.)
Murphy earns his sixth Hot Country Songs top 10 and first since 2004’s No. 5-peaking “Loco.” He first hit the tier in 1995 with “Party Crowd” (No. 6) and followed that year with his sole No. 1 to date, “Dust on the Bottle.”
