Q: Can you share with us how you first got involved with the GBA?
My involvement with GBA dates back to 14+ years ago. I along with a few co-workers attended a Check 21 training at GBA’s office. Since this time, I have looked to GBA as a resource for many things within my career. I currently serve as a Member at Large for Leadership GBA along with being a member at a semi-annual roundtable with Elaine Demarest . I feel that my involvement with GBA has allowed me to deepen my knowledge in many facets of banking. I am very thankful for the relationships I have gained through GBA not only with GBA team members but with other bankers. We are a big network and there is always someone that is the expert on a topic who is willing to offer assistance.
Q: What would you be doing if you weren't a banker?
There’s no other career! I became a teller at 19 and knew that this is what I wanted to do forever. It’s my passion to serve others and help them be the best that they can be.
Q: When you think of the future of the banking industry in Georgia, what makes you concerned and what makes you hopeful?
My concern with the banking industry is as generations change, we are seeing that loyalty isn’t as important as it once was. Many customers toss loyalty out and only look for the best rate. As a community bank, we add a lot of value to our customers. Our expertise and products that we bring to the table are priceless. In addition, the countless hours and monetary donations that we give back to the communities we serve help build a stronger community. I think banks will need to continue to focus on how to market and bank the upcoming generations. I am excited for the industries that are looking to move to Georgia. If these deals come to fruition for Georgia, it will boost our economy more than it is today by employing countless number of Georgians which in turn will put their dollars back into Georgia businesses and banks. Over the years, we’ve seen small businesses close shop and the town squares have been deserted, it is refreshing to see small towns bring back small businesses on the “town square”.
Q: What characteristic do you admire most in others?
I admire people who respect the different points of view that everyone brings to the table, positivity, strong work ethics and people who do not procrastinate. I might envy my co-workers that do not procrastinate but that’s only because I want to be like them.
Q: What super power would you like to have?
I love my job and serving our customers, but it would be awesome if the weekends were as long as the work week. I'm sure everyone wishes they could have this Superpower!
